The queue for this popular event started to form at about 2.00pm the day before the sale was due to commence. Regulars seeking a bargain arrive with sleeping bags to stake a claim on a work of their choice when the doors open on the Sunday. Though most buyers are from the Penwith area and the rest of Cornwall, this year saw visitors from Bristol, Glasgow and from as far afield as Colombia, S. America - albeit holidaying in the district.
The proceeds from the sale are to be shared between local arts charities and organisations to include The St. Ives School of Painting to deliver art projects with young people in the local community, St. Ives Society of Artists and the Penwith Society of Artists as well as charities and good causes supported by Rotary, such as ShelterBox and the Campaign to Eradicate Polio throughout the world.
